OK....back at it
So, it has been a bit since my last update and especially since my last uploaded demo. Life just kept getting in the way. Although, even though the physical code of the game itself wasn't being worked on, the gears were still moving. I was still thinking through issues, storyline, characters, game mechanics, etc. Refer to the image below. As a result, I have decided to take a different approach.
What initially inspired this game was Castlevania Bloodlines for the Sega Genesis (Vampire Killer in Japan and Castlevania: The New Generation in Europe for the Sega Mega Drive). This has been my favorite Castlevania game since its initial release. Instead of going all in on a Metroidvania-style of a game, I have decided to go a bit more classic and adopt a level-based approach with a password system. There may still be a few Metroidvania-style mechanics here and there but in order for me to tell my story, the way I wish to tell it, this pseudo-linear level-based approach may be the best.
Note that the Cult of Blood is not a Castlevania clone or an unofficial installment into the main series. It tells its own story and therefore should stand on its own. There may exist a tiny bit of overlap here and there but nothing more.

Keep plugging away, man! That's all we can do. The more I do / think about my project, the more respect and admiration I develop for all game devs. Especially single person studios. Truly labors of love!
Thank you! And same here. My son has been getting into game development in the last couple of years. He is almost 12 and does some crazy things in Unity (for the Oculus) and packages and distributes them here itch.io. I imagine that he too will form his own single person studio soon.
